Obesity and Mental Health!

The Unseen connection!

Hello My dear friend,

I have a quick question for you; Do you always look forward to the weekend?

I know it’s a popular saying that “ Thank God is Friday” But personally, do you always look forward to the weekend? Or are there some weekends that you usually envision to be even more busy than weeks days? Let me know if you actually thank God it’s Friday or you follow the multitude to thank God it’s Friday.

How are you? And how was your week? 1 more Friday and the month of March is over, if you ask me, I’d say that it’s surprisingly fast month. Nonetheless, I hope you are taking time to enjoy every part of it.

My dear friend, I have no doubt that you can attest to the fact that the world of today has unknowingly given people the medium to comment, judge and criticize things and people even if it’s not their place to.

One of the categories of people at the receiving end of this are Obese people.

Now, listen carefully; I’m not saying that obesity is a good thing, Infact it is very detrimental to one’s health. But do you know that obesity, especially among Adolescents is no longer a physical challenge? it’s an emotional battle too. Obese teens often experience teasing, bullying, and discrimination, which can severely affect their self-esteem and mental health. Adolescents who are obese are prone to several mental health challenges because of how they are being treated by friends, family members and even strangers.

So, while we combat the physical aspect of obesity, let us try as much as possible not to ignore the mental health aspect.

So how do we address this? There is an article titled “ Is Obesity Related To More Mental Health Issues Among Nigerian Adolescents” and its addresses this particular discuss.

Do not be among those people who look down, or talk down on the obese, rather be their support system and watch their health improve mentally and physically. Share this with people, so they can also have a change of attitude.

See you next weekend! With love, Wura from The Health City.
