Matters Arising: Protecting yourself from Heat Wave and Diptheria
Did you know that gold is indestructible? Research has it that It doesn’t rust, corrode, or decay. And interestingly, every bit of gold ever mined still exists in some form today!
Personally, I did not expect anything less from gold because it is the English translation of my name😌. So technically, I cannot rust, neither can I corrode. We will discuss about the decaying part later. 🌚😂

Hello My dear friend, welcome to the weekend! How are you? Please tell me you had a pleasant week. I know I usually say next week will be better, but hope this week was better than last week? Let me know in your reply to this mail.
Today, I have 2 important things to talk about. This week, there were 2 occurrences that have a major impact on our health.
First was the heat wave that hit some states in Nigeria and the second was the outbreak of diphtheria that has already claimed the life of a boy leaving 14 hospitalized.
Now, let us dissect these two issues one after the other and learn the best way to protect our health.
A heat wave is currently being experienced in some part of Nigeria. That is, these areas are experiencing a hotter than usual temperature and this can actually put you at risk of heat stroke, a complication of heat wave. The areas affected are; Kogi, Benue, Kwara, Niger, Zamfara, Taraba, FCT, Ebonyi, Abia, Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Cross River, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Edo and Delta.
If you are by chance in any of these states, you should put the following into consideration:
Avoid going outside doing strenuous exercise during the hottest time of the day
Use an umbrella
Wear bright and loose fitted clothes
Take cool showers
Drink at least 2-3 liters of water per day
Spend 2-3 hours in a cool place
Do these and your body will thank you.
The second thing we’d be talking about is the diphtheria outbreak.
Diphtheria is a serious bacterial infection that affects the mucous membranes of the throat and nose but can also impact the skin. It is spread through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes, or through direct contact with contaminated objects.
The symptoms are Sore throat, Fever, Weakness, Swollen lymph nodes, Thick gray or white membrane in the throat or nose, Difficulty breathing or swallowing.
This infection is a very dangerous one and these symptoms should not be concealed rather, you should see a doctor!
The Nigeria government has ordered the administration of Diphtheria vaccine in schools and among health workers. If they get to you, don’t refuse because that is actually what can prevent you from coming down with Diphtheria.
This is a lengthy letter today and if you have stayed up till this point, you are amazing.
Please put to practice all we have discussed into practice because they can save your life. Also, share with your friends and loved ones.
See you next week! With love,
Wura from The Health City.
