HOW YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE TO ENDING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
In the spirit of the just concluded 16 days of Activism, a yearly move to end violence against women, I came across a fact that I think we should all imbibe and as a result, I’ll start today’s conversation with it. Read carefully; “Comprehensive sex education, which includes discussions on consent and healthy relationships, can reduce rates of sexual violence by up to 50% in communities that implement it”
It’s high time our schools across the globe adopt this system, because if not, the battle we fight to end violence against women will be prolonged.
Hello My dear friend! How are you? And how was your week?
To those who responded to my mail last week, I want to say thank you, I look forward to more of your replies. If you didn’t reply, I would really love to hear from you, be sure to reply this mail.
Today, 13th December, 2024, The Health City in collaboration with AskTheDoc hosted an event themed; UNITE TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN.
We had 2 speakers, Dr Odunola Olabintan (Team lead at The Health City) and Oluwatomilola Awodoyin (A Clinical Psychologist) who did justice to the topic.
Here are some of the key take-aways from this event that we can all learn from;
Violence against women can lead to mental health issues including depression and anxiety.
We should extend support both emotionally and psychologically to victims of sexual and mental health abuse
We should not be apologists of those that perpetrate these acts and do well to report them to the right authorities.
Do not discriminate or label anybody who is a victim of sexual abuse.
Effect these change in yoir locality, no effort is too small.
To conclude our discussion today, every child, both male and female should be taught thoroughly about the reason we celebrate 16 days of activism and why it is important to join the move and end the cycle of violence against women!
Do well to enjoy the rest of your weekend! See you next week.
With love, Wura from The Health City.
